Washington Monument

No visit to Washington would be complete without seeing the Washington Monument - which is visible from almost any place in the city.  The towering 550-foot high obelisk was built in1885 to show the enduring gratitude and respect of the people of the United States toward their country's first commander-in-chief.  It stands opposite the White House in the National Mall.  It is the largest masonry structure in the world. Take an elevator to the top for a spectacular view of the Washington area.
