Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial is one of the most popular sites in Washington, DC, located in the National Mall.  The 19-foot marble statue of President Abraham Lincoln sits in a line with the Capitol and the Washington Monument.  The Reflecting Pool stretches between the two presidential monuments.

Lincoln sits behind 36 Doric columns within a greek-styled temple.   Each column represents a state of the union at the time he was president.  He is flanked by his two most popular speeches - the Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address, as well as numerous inscriptions taken from some of his most prominent speeches.
