Howard University

Howard University, established in 1867,  was initially funded by the Freedmen's Bureau, and has been a big player in American civil rights history.  The University's Morrland-Spingarn Resarch Center is renown as the one world's largest repositories of information relating to peoples of African descent in Africa, the Americas, and other nations throughout the world.  Notable graduates have included Thurgood Marshall, Toni Morrison, Debbie Allen, Ossie Davis, Claude Brown and Phylicia Rashad.

Cramton Auditorium, located on the main campus of Howard University, is host to a variety of university cultural events.
